Hi I’m DJ BushRocket. I love house and electronic music. If your bothering to read this hopefully you do too. My blog is designed to help promote the local dance music scene in Edinburgh as well as showcase my own mixes and productions. Plus anything else awesome going on in the world of electronic dance music.
Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland (well just outside) my first foray into music outwith the influence of my parents in the late 90′s early 00′s began in metal and rock enjoying the likes of Rage Against the Machine, Disturbed and the very close to my heart, Rammstein. At the time Nu Metal was big within my social group and I was along for the ride. I was never a particularly angst ridden teenager so often found metal music hard to relate too. I was looking for something with the same raw energy but more uplifting. After a couple of years I became increasingly drawn towards dance music listening to the likes of Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Moby, The Chemical Brothers, Dirty Vegas, Groove Armada and the Prodigy. I loved sharing the music I was discovering with my friends and became interested in the idea of being a DJ. I started off on vinyl but after several years made the switch to digital and now use Ableton Live. I spent far to much time beatmatching and not enough time selecting the right records. In the mid 00′s I became more interested in club dance music after listening to the likes of D Ramirez, Mason, Junior Jack, Deadmau5, Dirty South, Eric Prydz (the rest of the Swedes) and Mylo.
That list stays pretty much the same for artists I enjoy today only now with the inclusion of even more Swedes (Avicci, Alesso), Nicky Romero, Calvin Harris, Julio Bashmore, Tocadisco, Funkagenda, Bingo Players, Fedde Le Grand, Laidback Luke, Tim Mason, Michael Woods and Mark Knight.
My tastes in what I like to play are ever changing. I’ll try anything I think sounds good or that I think people will enjoy. I’m not allergic to popular music, just often find it very dull and predictable. (Ironic :P) It is a shameful vice. I still get annoyed at people that like pop music dance tracks but don’t like dance music. “OMG what is this noise play some David Guetta!! Eh this is David Guetta… just not featuring a currently successful vocal artist :P ” It’s something I need to shake.
For me Dance music is about having a good time with people you know and people you don’t know. Music should bring us together.
